Local Traditional Altar Breads

Our Altar Breads are made from locally grown and milled wheat and are made by hand.  They are available in wholemeal as well as white flour.

We continue the tradition of baking our breads on flat irons and they frequently show the markings produced when dough is poured onto a hot iron. This is not a defect but a characteristic of authentic flat breads.

The large flat breads are then cut into smaller sizes as required thus preserving the symbolism of receiving a host cut from a common loaf.

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 26:26-28

“..this is my body.”
